DRAFT 2024_05_31

Conversion of hierarchy from FAO Major Areas and levels down below, in scheme:

Note 1: All tables for hierarchies consists of two column: Group, Member. However, some tables use codes (i.e., InlandMarine-Ocean, Ocean-Subocean), the others use IDs.

Solution: First, built the hierarchy below FAO Major Areas. Then, add the rest (Inland/marine → Ocean → SubOcean)

Note 2: Subareas 47.3, 47.4, 47.5 appear in table Subareas but do not appear in the hierarchy table Major-subarea.

Explanation: Subareas 47.3, 47.4, 47.5 are no longer in use as marine areas (as of 2007). From Sara: "Nel 2007sono stati ratificati i cambi nelle Divisioni 47.3.0, 47.4.0, 47.5.0 ". The same happens to Subareas 37.0.0 and 37.9.0.

Solution: Created two tables, one "only_current", one "deprecated". Deprecated are not includedin current draft. Later, one could load them as deprecated items, in a dedicated scheme.

------

Working notes for Caterina's use only:

  1. TODO: check out existing marine ontology to reuse. Reuse properties for lat/long, with data type.
  2. TODO: check out with NFI columns on CWP
  3. TODO: separate scheme for hierarchy above FAO Major areas.
  4. TODO: separate scheme for deprecated areas (areas no longer existing, but kept for data integraty reasons).
  5. TODO: re-export CSV
  6. Oceans do not have codes. (I made a table with added codes, for uniformity with other items, where codes are used to build the URIs, But careful, as other codes have been assigned by international agreements, new codes may cause confusion ---- check use).
  7. Two group-member tables are missing (inland-ocean and ocean-subocean). Solution: Tables added.
  8. example of hiearchy with "wholes": 47 - 47.0.0 and 47 - 47.9.0. Same applies to 37 and 37.0.0, 37.9.0.
