ASFIS is a list of aquatic species relevant to fisheries, grouped according to two different groups - ISSCAAP and Taxonomic group.views - biological (ISFAS) and commercial (ISSCAAP).

IN practice: Species are defined in the ASFIS namespace, while the entities used for grouping are defined in their own namespace, ASFIS or ISSCAAP respectively. Two  small ontologies contain the description of the entities in each domain - for example, the taxa used in the ASFIS grouping (Major, Order, Family, Species) are defined in the ASFIS ontology (OWL), while individual taxon are in the ASFIS concept scheme (SKOS).
